Good Bye Atlantic Steel
It is Way Back When Wednesday again. Last week I posted The Grinders, Maine. Today's post of an oil painting titled "Good Bye, Atlantic Steel" is about as far as one can move from the beauty of its scene to an industrial wasteland. But, it documents a massive transition in the history of Atlanta. I am sure that is why my dad painted it.
Anyone living in Atlanta before 1998 is familiar with The Atlantic Steel Company; you could not go south on I-85 and not see it plainly from the freeway. But, by that time, it had deteriorated to an eye-sore on Atlanta. It first started in 1901. Today, The Atlantic Station Development stands on top of it.
