In this article, I will outline the challenges inherent in buying any artist's artwork online; and how I resolve them.
Even in the past, when buying from a brick & mortar gallery, it was essential to take the artwork home to evaluate how it "fit" in your lighting and space. That is still applicable to online purchases today. However, the new challenge when buying online is that you have not seen the artwork. You have only seen a digital re-creation of it on a screen.
The Challenge:
Every device and screen recreates the identical digital file differently, often significantly lighter or darker. Even primary reds, yellows, and blues are rendered drastically differently from screen to screen. It is only possible to know an artwork's accurate colors and tones on a device and screen that are manually and sophisticatedly color calibrated, which must be done frequently.
How I Resolve the Challenge:
All artwork purchases are 100% satisfaction guaranteed (see my return policy under the About/FAQ menu).
For a $22 charge, I will print and mail an exact, color-correct reproduction of the painting you are considering on 10x15 inch-sized paper. The charge may be applied toward the purchase price if you decide to purchase.
- Comparing this print to your screen will illustrate the challenges I outlined above.
- Placing this print in the light and space where you intend to hang your artwork will assist you in visualizing the painting where you intend to view and display it.
